Meteor Crater, also known as Barringer Crater, is a large meteorite impact crater located in the northern Arizona desert of the United States. It is approximately 1,200 meters (3,900 ft) in diameter, 170 meters (560 ft) deep, and is surrounded by a rim that rises 45 meters (148 ft) above the surrounding plains. The crater was formed about 50,000 years ago by the impact of a nickel-iron meteorite. It is a popular tourist attraction with a visitor center and museum.
