Campral (acamprosate) is a medication used to maintain abstinence from alcohol in patients with alcohol dependence who are already abstinent. It is thought to work by restoring the balance of certain neurotransmitters in the brain that are disrupted by chronic alcohol use, thereby reducing cravings and symptoms of protracted withdrawal.
